Foaling Tests Promise to save the lives of thousands of
Miniature Horse Foals With the reported high incidences of foaling death in miniature horses, Vets say that hundreds of miniatures die unnecessarily every year because of the birthing problems associated with un-assisted labor. Blood, milk and ultrasound tests can provide miniature horse breeders with an opportunity transport their mare to a vet hospital where a medically-trained staff be present to assist in the delivery. Multiple samples of this predictive blood test combined with a milk test strips can ensure a miniature horse breeders commitment to foaling in a medical facility. This promises to save the lives of thousands of miniature horses and foals. According to vets, the blood and mike testing for horse mares that can pinpoint the due date (within 24 hours) when sampled during the last two weeks of pregnancy. from data noted by a miniature horse veterinarian,
Dr. Amy

In cases where the ultrasound indicates dystocia (abnormal birth position), the miniature horse mare can be transported to a equine hospital to receive a Caesarian-section delivery. This technique can greatly reduce the incidence of miniature horse mare and foal death during delivery. |
